One of my accelerator bushings is almost completely worn out and one gone, so while I have access to this area, I figure now would be a good time to replace them. The bushings seem to be made of a hard type of plastic. Is there any trick to getting them to fit in the accelerator bar holes? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Heat helps. They can be boiled until softened...and work quickly. Microwaving for a few seconds may soften them too.
Buy extras, you may need them.
They aren't fun.

Here's a simple route using an inexpensive kit from Art Lipp (lipp04@yahoo.com).

Hey along the same line of discussion...I have to remove this cross shaft on my GT6, and the arm is frozen to the shaft. I drilled out the roll pin and soaked it with PB Blaster, and nothin! I don't have torches. Any suggestions.

I already had a pair of bushings, so I tried heating one of the bushings. I ruined the first one trying to put it in. For the life of me, I don't see how to put those in. I really don't like the design anyway. Are the ones they sell from the big 3 original? I think I am going to order one of the kits from Art. Thanks for your help everyone.

The factory style bushings suck and are a gigantic waste of time to install, which is why I started several threads and devoted a web page to doing it the right way.

One of the big three touts their factory style bushings are "new and improved so that they don't wear out." I think this is because they never get installed or used either. I would much rather replace the bushings every few years than to struggle to even get them in at all.

The site listed by Art's kit is no longer in existence. I did email Art Lipp with the email address listed. Does anyone know if he actually still sells these kits? If I can't get a hold of him soon, can someone tell me of another source for these? I really need this as a daily driver in two weeks.

Kevin

You shouldn't have to do this, but if you cut a sliver out of the original style bushings, they fit better. The seam that you create will squeeze together tightly.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Art already emailed me back, I payed with Paypal, and they should be on their way soon. I would have tried the sliver tip, but I already ruined the second one too.
