TR4/4A TR4A - need a windscreen frame vinyl trim kit

Vinyl trim kits for a TR4A windscreen frame are pretty pricy from TRF, Moss and others. Anyone have one, or have a suggestion where to get one reasonably?

Thanks,
Moe Morin

I just used regular vinyl upholstery fabric. I don't think the kits were even available when I did mine. It is a bit thicker, but presented no problems.

any trouble fitting it to the curvatures ofthe frame? What did you use for the adhesive?

Not really, make sure it is a bit warm, and it is pretty flexible. I used contact adhesive, I believe just brush-on Weldwood.

I followed the basic pattern of the stock vinyl, a top, bottom and two side strips. On the exposed ends, I just folded over the end of the vinyl. That made a pretty thick spot, so make sure that won't interfere with anything that you need to attach later (sun visor brackets, in particular).

Problem is that I don't have the original vinyl pieces to use as a pattern. Not sure where/how the pieces meet or overlap. I've been trying to find a picture of this detail, but no luck so far.

Thanks for your help.

It probably isn't all that critical where you separate the pieces, it is just in the "corners" of the frame. Probably what I would do (or did, it was years ago) is take either the top and bottoms, or the sides as far as you can while keeping them fairly flat.

I can try to get some pictures later today (decent lighting will be the problem).

OK, here are some pictures. On the top, you can see it is just poofed out a bit, looks worse in the picture than in person. I think it the seam was more toward the vertical, it would be a little easier to get to lay flat, as well as not being right under the sun visor mount.

On the bottom, you can see how little actually shows once mounted. I also need to get that corner of the crash pad to stay down!

Here are some pics of my TR4 which has the original trim. It appears (from the overlaps) that the 4 pieces were fitted in this order: bottom, 2 sides, then across the top.

Geo,

I had that problem too with the crash pad trying to lift on the sides...

If you use auto vinyl, its 36 inches wide just get a piece thats as long as the frame and do it in one piece, might be lots of waste but you wont have any seams

I bet you can do that
