got me to thinking: when did Triumph change the positions of the two gauges from speedometer more "outboard" to speedometer more "inboard" (ostensibly so that a rallye navigator would have a better view of it)? I vaguely recall that my 2nd edition of the TSOA Handbook (which I haven't seen for years; it's packed away somewhere) tells when the change was made.

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

Andy,

The TRA Judging Standards and Restoration Guide shows this happening at TS29098.

TS 29098 Speedometer and tachometer positions reversed; speedometer is now on left.

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

Andy,

You are right! I just cut and pasted that line from the guide without checking it.

Later in the interior section of the guide they show the layout with the speedometer on the left but with a note that the units swapped position at TS29098 so to me that indicates the change correctly.

Someone should point this out to them (maybe they've updated it as mine is the May 2004 revision)!

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

So, what what I'm reading is that the speedo should be to the right of the steering column on my post 60000 mile car. Correct?
If so, I have a problem because the hole for the odometer zero knob is covered by the heater dash brace. Whoops, I just saw the answer to my question in the info Randall posted. So I'm back to the original. Do I have to make the change? I guess my question is: Was that a factory production change, or a dealer fix?
Sheech, I hate do-overs!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

It was a factory change. Up to you whether to fix it or not; but if you don't, others will snigger and laff. (I'm kidding, of course.)

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

Your speedometer is WHERE?????
Oh, snuffle, snigger, snort...
How quaint.

Does it actually WORK?

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

You guy's are something else, snigger, snort, heh

Re: TT3A speedo and tach positioning

You need to turn the tach so that redline is positioned at 12:00. Like a race car. You know, what with the blinding speeds achieved in these old girls, you don't have time to look directly at the tach. Just shift when you catch the needle straight up out of the corner of your eye. Of course, I'm being a smart ass.

Oh, you caught me. You have good eyes. Actually, I had missed this until I compared it to an early photo.
