TR2/3/3A TR3 front end..mounting wishbone near steering box

Looks like it might be necessary to disconnect the steering box and raise it slightly in order to get the wishbone on to the fulcrum pin! Any advice here as its been a couple of years since I took the wishbone off ...I managed to get it off by removing the big nut at the drop arm. Karl

Could be, as I'd guess there is some variation in individual cars. But on my TR3A it was possible without loosening the steering box. Tight fit, involved a small amount of force, but I did it several times.

Karl - This spring I was doing major re-work on the front suspension and steering box in my 1958 TR3A and had the whole steering box and one-piece column out the car. I then used a puller to pull off the pitman arm that is secured with a huge nut to the lower splined output shaft which comes out the bottom of the steering box. I used the puller which "belongs" to the members of this forum. Others who have used it are Dick LeClair in Tenn., Moseso in Wisconsin, who sent it to me and it's now with Adrio in Ottawa.

If you feel you need to use this puller, let us know. But it can't be used with the steering box still in the TR.

Then I continued to remove all the suspension parts before re-installing the steering box and column.

After I put the steering box back in, I continued to re-assemble the wishbones on both sides of my TR. The one closest to the steering box was a devil, but I didn't want to pull the steering box and column out again. All I had to do was to remove the huge nut which secures the pitman arm onto the lower output splined shaft to get enough space to fit the wishbone onto it's spindle. It's not easy but with careful fiddling, it works.

WISCONSIN?????
I guess all us USAers look the same to y'all Canadians, eh?

Thanks for the info. Do you remember if the end stud on the wishbone that goes to the pan was removed? Mine is still on the wishbone and I'm thinking I might get more wiggle room if I remove it?

Mine was not.

The stud on mine was still there when I wiggled it into place.

Sorry Moses - I got all mixed up. You have 48 states and that makes it harder for us to remember. Here we only have the names of 10 provinces to remember.

Er, Don, actually we have 50 states...But, in all honesty, Wisconsin is right next to Minnesota so the faux pas is quite excusable. Moses just over reacted.

Thanks Art for the up-date. I had forgotten about the two most recent states "Palin-land" and "Obama-land" or did I get that wrong again. My memory is not what it used to be.

Nah, one is the state of shock, and the other is the welfare state!

Or, just maybe, Alaska and Hawaii? Nah, couldn't be that!
