MGB Sales strategy opinions wanted

Now that I have finally got the 1974.5 MGB roadster brakes all fixed I have decided it's really not the car for me so I am asking opinions on how to market it. It is mostly a survivor with the original paint (but in poor condition) , a no hit body with minimal rust of a cosmetic type, NOT STRUCTURAL.

The seats, door panels and carpets are good but typical dash pad deterioration from many years in Arizona A serviceable roof and toneau cover (sp?). There is a new exhaust system and new Michelin tires plus a new stereo. Oh, did I forget to mention a working overdrive, too.

What I can't decide is whether to fix the rusty bits or not and if that answer is yes how far should I go as far as the paint situation. Some buyers might like the patina of original paint. Others might prefer new shiny paint. I can paint it for small money as I do it for a hobby and paint 1 or 2 cars a year . But then I run into the choice of a respray of the original ugly tundra (olive drab) verses BRG or some such other color.

Mechanically it is less of a survivor as it has a '75 engine with dual SU hif's and NO cat converter in the system

Help me out here on what YOU think would be the most effective tecnique for selling. Thanks, bob

Bob -

If I were in your shoes, I'd make sure it's completely roadworthy and sell as is. If you paint it, then the other areas/issues will be more glaring. But if you do decide to paint it, the tundra would be a better choice, in my opinion. It's rare, and has its followers. Also, you'd have more work in it if you were to change colors, as most folks want new paint to cover everything: engine compartment, door sills and jambs, etc.

Hope this helps,
Mickey

:iagree: with Mickey! If you just want to sell the car, price it as it's condition is now. MGs are not cars that you put money into and expect to get it back when sold. JMHO. PJ

+1 plus there are so many bodged repairs out there covered with new paint (not that you would do that I know) - better to leave it an honest car and be done with it.
