"Rebuilt" 1500 out of balance

Well, I got my motor back together and it runs great BUT, it now has a vibration b/w 2-3K it didn't have before. The only thing different I did on the bottom was ARP rod bolts and a new flywheel ring gear. The heads of the old bolts were larger and I didn't think anything of it as no one said I need to rebalance using these rod bolts but EVERYONE said that the rod bolts needed to be replaced when installing new bearings.

The vib isn't real bad, but any vibrations aren't good. (no jokes please.)

I know it can't live long like this, all I wanted/needed was 5K out of it till I can get my other motor together and I don't think it'll live that long like this.

So far any options I have thought of didn't sound good at all.

(install old bolts, install GRD8 washers to make up weight, drive it like it is till it fails etc...)

Any ideas?

Re: "Rebuilt" 1500 out of balance

The big question is this: are you sure the vibration is from something being off balance? The ARP bolts should be uniform in weight, so I doubt that is the cause.

Re: "Rebuilt" 1500 out of balance

Could the flywheel be the culprit?

Re: "Rebuilt" 1500 out of balance

What was done to the engine? If the engine is vibrating, my first thought wouldn't be out-of-balance internals...

Re: "Rebuilt" 1500 out of balance

I would suspect the flywheel either not seated properly or a ring gear from some asian country.

To each other, yes, equal in weight to the originals that it was balanced with, probably not.

I took a chance and pulled the belt off and it seems to be the fan. It is in the same shape it was before. I think I notice it more now as the rear mounts sat down on the cross piece and it was contacting the mount cradle transfering vibration directly to the frame and covering up the fan vibration.

It still seems a bit buzzy, but the "waaa waaaa waaaa" goes out w/ the belt off.

The flywheel bugs me as it is only torques to 45ft#'s. It should be seated home good.

Gonna drive it till it dies!

Did you change the clutch disc or possibly a new pressure plate? Have you tried it without the fan belt being hooked up? Sorry if I'm repeating something already said. PJ

Paul (and Stan) just noting that this thread is from 2010 - by a 'poster' named guest. My guess is that he is long gone.
