TR6 Rebuild or replace Clutch Master Cylinder?

I seem to be losing my clutch hydraulic fluid into my footwell. To my recollection I've never rebuilt the master cylinder since I've owned the car (2002). Is the rebuild kit effective or is it a stop-gap measure until the MC is replaced? What would you do? The slave cylinder was replaced a few years ago.

Pull it apart, check the condition of the bore where the seal rides. If it is significantly pitted, buy a new cylinder (or have that one sleeved). If the bore is in good shape then new seals should hold it for another decade or two.

+1 on sleeving it. I have a retired machinist that has a full shop in his second garage. He sleeved it with stainless steel. May last forever now.

Decent new ones are available and are not very expensive. Unless you are going concours and want to retain a girling m/c I'd vote for replacement.

I just rebuilt both the mc and slave this weekend with TRF kits...took more time to remove from the car than to rebuild, like everyone says if the bores are clean then rebuild.

Although it's a TR3A and not a TR6, I sent both clutch and brake MC to Apple Hydraulics - they installed the SS sleeves and returned the MCs rebuilt and ready to use. It's been about 2 years and they don't leak a drop of fluid. Might be a good option if you are into keeping your existing MC rather than replace with new. Looks like the Apple rebuild is $125 where the Moss new cylinders vary from $70 to $100. So, not a huge diff in price.
