Radio Mounting Hardware

I don't have a picture, but for the two radio control switch prongs on a TR4 radio (the on/off switch and the tuning switch)there was an aluminum, thin walled tube nut that reached through the dash to grab the threaded housings for the controls. Any idea where those can be found?

The local stereo shops and hardware stores look stumped, and have no idea what I'm referring to. I can just barely get a nut on those threads, and the purpose of the aluminum fitting was to reach through and grab them.

I guess I better admit, I'm doing this by memory, and it's possible there was some other kind of fitting. It's also possible I'm trying to fit the wrong radio, but it sure looks like an original TR4 radio. Was the TR3 made differently?

Thanks

I can check the original radio that came out of my TR4A later this week if someone else doesn't have the answer for you by then.

Thanks if it's not too much trouble, I'd be very curious how it was secured. thx

My 4A just has a thin washer with a thin nut that threads on just far enough. No fitting that reaches through, nut is a little tuff to start with no extra threads to work with.

OK, finally made it out to get some pictures of my radio. Mine just has a thin nut as well.

The dash support in my first car which this radio came from had been re-covered, but I have the dash support from my second car which is in very decent original shape so I tried mounting the radio in it and as Richard indicated there are not many threads exposed for the nut to grab onto and that's without a washer which mine was missing.

My installation, and every other old radio that I have worked on is as pictured by Scott.

Contort the body to allow for pressure pushing on the rear of the radio whilst pushing with pressure on the nut. There is not much thread to grab, and with a thick covering it would be difficult, but achievable.

To gain an extra millimeter, it may be possible to carefully remove the foam backing on the vinyl cover in the area around the knobs / thread. Its not visible when installed and could be the extra thread or two necessary to make install that much more easy.

If you had pics of what you are trying to do that would help as well.
