As you can see the project has resumed once more. This time to the finish, I hope???

I have a couple of questions regarding drainage of the scuttle vent and battery box. I recall the photos from Don “E” which show the drain out the bottom of the battery box and into a hole in the trans. tunnel.

Does this hole in the cover have a grommet?

I got one of Mark's drain hose kits (see https://www.macysgarage.com/myweb6/Parts/other_tr2_3_parts.htm#TR2/3%20Body%20Drain%20Tube%20Set), but this includes only three short pieces of black plastic hose, two for the drains in the boot and one for the battery box.

How is the sump under the vent lid drained? Since I have the same hole (it has a rolled edge) in the bulkhead, do I drain the vent out the front of the bulkhead?

Or, I believe some cars were plumbed with a brass “TEE” connecting the battery box and vent-drain together and then continuing through the top of the tunnel? If I go this route, I assume that we need plug the hole identified by the arrow?

Finally, does anyone have a photo showing the two drain hoses joined with the “Tee” and through the tunnel?

I found a picture of mine I assume its original. The scuttle drain isn't in the hole in this pic. 50 year old rubber tends to be a little brittle and when i touched it it broke at the bulkhead. But, you can see how it runs and the battery drain even though there was a screw in the battery side of the tube. I guess that he got tired of acid dripping in the cockpit, As rusted as the box was nothing was going to find the drain anyway. On a side note not sure the drain is necessary now any way with modern batteries the likelihood of having any amount of acid in the battery box would be very small IMHO.

When you connect the dash bits and steering, could you PM me some detailed photos so I could see how it is all hooked together. I am finding that i may be missing more parts than I thought.

Makes sense to me. What I don't understand is why you don't have the hole for the steering column (when assembled as a RHD car) ? Is your firewall from a later TR3A?

PS, sorry I don't have a photo of the two lines teed together. But I believe that was only on later cars (sometime after TS60K). The tee was kind of an unusual piece, with the body being cylindrical. Two of the legs lined up with the battery box drain and the hole in the tunnel; the leg for the scuttle vent drain stuck out to the rear as I recall and looped up behind the battery box.

Frank I wish I could help you with your question but I can't at this time. The work you are doing on your car is first class. One thing scares me though, The lever on the OD switch is very easy to break off, as it stands very proud of the dash. Later on I will look to see if I have any photos that will help.

Randall: My car TS58476 LO was assembled on Sept. 1st, 1959. This is prior to the major changes at TS60K. At some point in time Triumph stopped making ambidextrous TR's, so no hole for a steering column on the right and no blanking necessary.

That's interesting, Frank. I was not aware that they started making LHS-only bodies before TS60k.

But that hole does appear to be for the scuttle drain, yes?

Oh, and to answer an earlier question, I don't believe there was a grommet or anything where the tube went through the transmission tunnel. The rubber hose was simply a snug fit in the hole.

Mine had TS27###L on the tag, but the engine and trans are TS509##, the diff TS497##. It has no raised hinge plinths, the sloped rear axle deck, squared trunk, the trunk lid underside has metal support braces (not rods), BUT no place for a blanking plate for the steering column. -Obviously mine is a mix from more than one year, but all the parts seem to be pre 60k.

Frank, you are doing a fine job and paying more attention to details than I. I can't wait to see the end result. Great choice in color.

My instinct tells me that the commission number might be the odd one out here? Engine and diff. numbers are close enough to have been from the same car. What's the "EB" number?

Mine is TS51339L and also has no blanking plate for RHS.

As Randall said, the battery box drain hose on mine is a snug fit in the transmission tunnel and no evidence of a grommet. My scuttle drain hose was hanging down in the passenger side but it would appear to have been routed toward the hole you pointed out in the bulkhead which has nothing in it.

There was no other number plates on the firewall. The trans and engine are within 32 of each other, and the diff 1140. The head is stamped 3499 46913 -but I don't know if they marked each head. The cam in the steering box was marked 10 58, which would roughly match the 27###.

Awesome. I assume it was the original color of your car? I really like some of the less common colors of the 2's and 3's. From my reading I believe Silverstone Grey was a <span style="font-style: italic">very</span> rare color?

Mine was Silverstone Grey originally as well although with Silverstone Grey interior instead of red like Frank's, but I haven't heard that it was a rare color. It was repainted powder blue at some point which is probably what I'm going back with as that's the color I like on a TR3.

Frank, I agree with Keith that your work is looking stunning.

Yes. It was. But, when I found the car, it had been painted black. It wasn't until 15 years later, when I decided to restore the car, that I discovered that the original color was silverstone grey. I really don't know how many cars were painted this color, but ssg (previously listed as pearl grey) was only available for a few years. I have yet to find another car originally painted ssg but have seen a few that are finished this color now.
