Was out at my friend's shop tonight... And he had just taken delivery of a 1971 Plymouth Cricket.

Yes, I know that everyone is all excited now... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif Or maybe just recalling horror stories about them... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

There aren't many of these left in North America according to Rootes Group enthusiasts. This particular car is the same one that was sold locally back in August (for $600 or thereabouts), the 17 year old who purchased it then has now sold it for a little profit but at least now the car is in good hands.

The car... It was covered in snow tonight [yup! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ] but underneath the snow looked pretty decent, body looked fairly nice, and it does run and drive

Ah, the Plymouth Cricket. Brings back memories. A friend had one back in the mid-1970s. Already a bit of a "beater" car, he used it on rallyes. His most memorable experience was having the front propeller shaft u-joint break, which soon caused the car to virtually pole-vault into the air, which really didn't do the car any good at all....

What a difference in name meanings

Cricket

vs.

Avenger

I don't know, cricket can get pretty nasty at times! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But you are talking about cricket, not cricket where I mean cricket and I don't mean cricket. I mean cricket not the other cricket nor the other other cricket. Oh you mean cricket, not cricket. Ok I get it.

Or did you mean Krikkit? I hear those folks are potentially more destructive than crickets or cricket. Intresting place, Krikkit, but I bet they never sold Crickets there, or atleast under the name Cricket... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stopped by the shop again after work today to take a couple of pictures (film camera for me right now...) From where it was parked could only get some pictures from the back end of this rare car.

Also, the last time I saw it was night time. Seeing in day light showed up a few more flaws, a little more rust than I thought, still not too bad though.

interesting - I'll have to pop when its not convered in snow and I have a second.

was this it?

Okay, here it is... The best picture I could get from where it's currently parked... I'll bet you haven't seen a picture of one of these for a very long time!

78Z... I'm sure it's the same one you're referring to, there likely aren't more than one of them around Calgary...

Nice shot. It's really not in bad shape is it? I can see rust on the sill and on the rear wheelarch, but nothing a skilled welder couldn't put right. Might be worse underneath, of course.......you tempted here James?

doesn't look too bad. gotta admit I perfer their Cortina or Rover 2000 though.
