TR2/3/3A Painting Help Needed for Restored Steering Wheel

I've finished restoring the bakelite rim of an adjustable steering wheel for my '58 TR3A. (Finding one in good condition seems to be essentially impossible). I'm ready to paint it and want to know if anyone can tell me the original color of the bakelite adjustable steering wheel? I assume it's either a glossy black or a satin/semigloss black. Also, any advice on what type of paint to use would be appreciated. I expect to finish it up with a clear coat.

I did mine with a single stage high temp black engine paint.
 
Hello Bill,
I sanded and primed then used about 5 coats gloss black Tremclad. Let dry and sand lightly between coats. Then let it rest for a month.
Something that you might consider is a leather wheel cover. With the wheel out of the car it's a good time to do the job - not difficult.

I've already spoken with the Wheelskins people. They are a 10-15 minute drive from my house, so I'll be bringing the finished wheel over for a perfect fitting when I'm all done. They told me they could do it while I wait. As for color, I've been thinking about a black semi-gloss/satin finish.
 
Bill, I noticed Wheelskins doesn't list any Triumphs on there website. Could you let me know the size and price for the TR3 if you install it yourself? Thanks.

For sizing, all they need to supply is the outside diameter of the wheel and the circumference of the grip at the high point of the finger indents
