Hi Guys

How do you remove the heater box in the engine compartment from a B. I can't seem to get the darn thing out and I've removed all the hoses and screws holding it in place.

Thanks for your help.
Kevin

If you're SURE you got all the bolts and the screw out it has to be stuck in the "foam" packing. How 'bout the interior vent tubes and control cable?

Hi Kev, what mischievous scheme do you have going on Sir?

I looked longingly at mine over the weekend as I was yanking my bumpers.

Quicksilver

I'm rebuilding and making modifications to my 71 B roadster. There are mods on the body (smoothing out the lines a bit) filling the trim holes and my biggest mods are removing the turn signals from the front fenders, moving the turn signals into the headlights, also I'm removing the trunk latch button and smoothing out the trunk to install an electric trunk release and maybe forming in a third stop light in the trunk with LEDs. Then I'm relocating the gas filler to the inside of the trunk. With gas prices getting up over $3.00 again here I'll need to hide the filler from gas thieves.

The engine is all rebuilt and balanced. Should run really smooth.

I haven't decided on the color scheme yet but what ever it will be is going to look hot.

Doc

I think I got all of the screws out but I'll check again and I'll check to see if the connection for the vent tubes is holding it up. I have removed the control cable but still no luck.

Thanks for your advice. I'll let you know if it comes out.

Some will get well-and-truly cemented to the firewall by the degraded "seal" between the cage and bulkhead. It'll be a contest at the best of times. Patience is about the most important thing.

Do let us know how you get on.

I agree with what Doc said. It sometimes takes lots of patience, and wiggling to get the things out. Once you get it rocking a bit, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

You have some pretty interesting mods laid out. It will be interesting to see pictures.

And then, there's reassembly.

Agreed....the heater did NOT go back into my V8.

I left the heater out of my 65 for no other reason than it really does not provide much heat to begin with, and I think the engine bay looks better without it. I do have it assembled on the bench should colder climates ever show the need for re-installation.

Ah good news. I have been thinking of removing me mine but I was afraid you Guys will have me casted out of the village.

Now regarding the V8, I will email/pm you.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't really need a heater out here on the Left Coast, and I probably won't let a drop of rain touch the car. LOL.

Thanks for you advice. I'll post pictures when it's together.

I yank (pun)ed the heater and plugged the ensuing gaping hole.

Amateurish work at best but very shadetree and rat rodish.

Hi Guys

Thought I'd update you on the progress of my MG engine compartment.

Well I was finally able to get the heater box out with a little coaxing. I spent about a week sanding and priming the compartment and a few days ago I gave it a coat of Dupli-Color Low Gloss Engine paint. The low gloss really helps to cover up the imperfections in the sheet metal and it looks really cool as well.

Here is my plan for the cover for the Heater Box Hole.

The MG emblem is a Tax Disk holder that I picked up in the UK a few years back. I hope I can fabric this decently. I'm intending to put a cover over the firewall where the fan motor for the heater was located. I want a nice clean look to that area of the firewall.

I plan to make it out of sheet aluminum and give it a brushed stainless steel look.

I'm going to rewire the entire car with a Painless wiring kit and place the fuse box inside the compartment created by the removal of the heater box.
