I have an idea for those with side curtains.

As most of you know I had the alum trim around the cockpit polished and anodized, really looks nice.

Now I am afraid to put side curtains on as the steel attachments rest on the alum.

Think I may have an answer. You know the rubber stuff in many colors that you get at Home Depot say to dip tool handles in. Why can I not dip the side curtain mounting brackets in this stuff where it touches the alum.?

I would surely like my top and side curtains to work properly even if I should never use them.

What say you all, am I reinventing the wheel?

Either that or a small square of innertube rubber glued to the side-curtins to protect the finish.
That plastisol isn't very tough in most home type applications and I'll bet that the rubber would last longer.

You raise a good point Jack, as my side curtain brackets have had a tendency to mar the aluminium also (though mine has not been refinished to any kind of fine polish!). I do use my side curtains because I have been known to drive in the rain

! I will be watching this thread to see if anyone comes up with a novel solution! I Like the POR-15 idea!

The POR 15 while it has a smooth finish it is also as tough as the bracket. Won't scratch the alumnium but I'll bet it will dent it. I use old inner tube rubber glued to the inside of my side curtain brackets.

I am not concerned with the bracket, it is the soft alum that the bracket will marr.

Hmm, maybe POR-15 AND the inner-tube idea, since my brackets are prone to rust! Inner-tube would also help any rattling too!

Jack, I thought your side curtains were just for "show". Do you mean you are going to drive the car in the rain?

No, hehe. But I might get caught out or it might get cold.

Really, I just want it orginal preaty much and everything to work properly.

Second show this weekend. Looks like it will be a wash out like last weekend.

Jack - Eastwood has just the product for you - rubberized paint that ocmes in different oclors.

I've probably got some shrink tube big enough to slip over the bracket. A couple layers and a hole punch would likely do the trick.

My got. that would be big shrink tube, where did you find that. Sounds like just the stuff.

Let me check and see. I have a set of curtains. I'll let you know. Busy day today, I'll check later tonight.
