How to attach escutcheon retaining plate to the escutcheon?

Working on my '59 BN6 has certainly expanded my knowledge and usage of the Proper English language in various ways...(boot, wing, anti-clockwise, hood, bonnet, etc..)

That said, I can honestly say this is probably the first time I have used the word "escutcheon" in a sentence.....never mind actually knowing how to spell it..:excitement:

So here's my issue: After several unsuccessful tries to use the escutcheon retaining plate I ended up attaching the escutcheon (nonadjustable steering) to the opening in the dash by simply bending the three prongs back around the inside of the hole. Seems to work just fine. But of course now the escutcheon retaining plate is just sitting unused on the steering column behind the dash - that can't be right....

So, how exactly does the escutcheon attach to the escutcheon retaining plate? :D

Thanks!

Chet

Chet,

Below are some pictures of the non adjustable steering setup. Just bend the tabs over the retaining plate. It will help to center the escutcheon.

Thanks,
Duane

Ah...the tabs go INSIDE the retaining plate...
Mine were bent so much that I figured they bent from the outside of it.
Thanks Duane!
