Help...brake line question.

So I've been working on my brakes the last few weeks and was just about to finish when I got stuck today. I just recently purchased a new Brake Master cylinder (dual line) for my '70 Midget and when I went to install it I noticed that the line closest to the front bumper did not fit the new cylinder, but the rear line did. I looked at the front line and noticed that the connection looked a little bigger than the rear (possibly metric vs. us) so I ordered a new 60" brake line from VB and today when I was putting it in the new line fits the master cylinder, but did not fit the union above the passenger front tire. I took the old line that was now out of the car and verified that it did not fit the new master cylinder but the new line does. Any ideas? Is there an adapter to fix this problem? Thanks!!

Jacob

First, scratch the metric thought. I have run into the same problem and I think if you go to page 108 in the VB cat, no. 35 or 36 is the fitting you need. I think it is 36. I live close to VB and will swing by there tomorrow and get back approx 10:00 AM CST and tell you which part is the one that goes to the larger size.

Yeah, there's an "adaptor" to reduce the fitting size. Kinda MacGyver, but it works.

Thanks for getting that info for me. Do you know if that is something I can find locally at a parts store or some I have to order? I hate to pay $7 shipping for a .95 part. Thanks!! Jacob

Any decent parts store will have brake line adapters in stock. The best bet is to bring in the MC as well as the line you have and let them figure out which adapter you need.

I used to work in a parts store, and we did that stuff all the time. Much easier than trying to order the correct part, and paying shipping. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I went to VB and that is not the correct part. I have one I salvaged from a car and have used it. So they exist, I'mlooking in the VB cat. It is also not 2 at the bottom of the page.

I noticed that when I redid all my lines. Luckily I simply re-used all the ends and re-did all the flares. Manged to change all th brke lines in the car for new ones for under $25. Even after all the misake bends.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

I appreciate all the help on this. I will hit the local auto parts to store when I get back in town today. How difficult is it to bubble flare a line. I'm not to sure I can do it without causing it to leak. So I think I am at the mercy of the "MacGyver" fix for now. Just seems odd to my that the pressure regulator and the MC would require different size fittings. Happy Thanksgivings All!!!

What pressure regulator, get the right pump and you don't need that.

In any case a pressure regulator in my experience is installed with rubber hoses and clamps.

Woops, thought it was the infamous pressure regulator. No rubber by all means on the brakes.

Might borrow same from one of the auto stores?

I will guess that the "pressure regulator" is actually the "brake system failure" switch since it is a '70.
