H6 Carb Mounting

Speaking of H6 carbs, is there an advantage to installing spacers between HD6 carbs and their manifolds,
such as those shown (in black) in these pix?

They move the float bowls that much further from the exhaust manifold.

I see those spacers are included in the Moss 100M kit.

Steve is right that the float bowls are further from the exhaust manifold.

Also, Moss (page 27 for HD6 part number 696-000) calls them "insulating block" rather than spacers. Moss also shows on the tri-carb an "insulation block (1/4" thick)" and on the HS6 found on the BJ7 two of these "insulator blocks" at each carb.

I can't offer any citation but I have always understood they were an attempt to limit direct heat transfer to the carb body.​

I have usually put as many as I can fit (even to the point of using longer studs) and still clear obstacles in the goal of keeping the carbs as cool as possible.

Thanks for the responses. Makes sense.

The clear plastic spacers with wavy edges and holes drilled that the PO put on the car may have been for the same purpose.

Just by way of follow-up, we found that the cold air box would not fit with the spacers ("insulating blocks") installed. I suppose that the special shroud support bracket could be modified or removed to make room, but instead we are opting to go without them.

Very interesting that the Moss kit includes the blocks/spacers. Perhaps their shroud support bracket is already re-engineered to make it all work?
