Fuel guage not working

Is there a way to test the sending unit for fuel level in a bugeye? Or test the gauge? Trying to figure out how to determine where the issue rises

Does the gauge move when key is first moved to on position? Take voltage test at gauge. Go to wires at sending unit for power. I usually take sender out and see if it has full range of function and if gauge responds if all have power. Might need new float.

I believe that the sending unit is nothing more than an adjustable ground but don't burn up your gauge on my advise. Don't remember whether full is all the way grounded or if it's the other way around.

Kurt.

So if you have it wired up....and don't forget the ground on the gauge.....if you remove the wire to the sender, that is infinite resistance....gauge will read full.
If you ground the wire to the sender, that is zero resistance, and the gauge should read zero. Only do these test momentarily ....otherwise bad things could happen!
In reality....."0" ohms is empty, and 80 ohms or so is full. Cheers,
Scott in CA

Also don't forget, both the gauge and the sender have to be grounded.

Nice explanation. And now seeing a gauge apart, I'll be sure not to open one up!
