Will the front and rear bumpers from a Mark 1 fit my Mark 3 BJ8?
(Apologies for my US friends as I am sure you call bumpers something else? The shiny metal things at the front and back that are supposed to take a small knock)

Hey Jeepster,
That's one of the things we do call by the same name - means I won't have to make sure I know to call bumpers something different like a hood a bonnet, a trunk a boot, a muffler a silencer, etc. Love the description "shiny metal things at the front and back ".
Regards,
Mike

My brother had an early Land Rover once....and a factory shop manual....and at one end was a Brit/US glossary. Back then (30 years ago) it was helpful in replacing the clutch master cylinder to know that "remove left wing" meant what it did.

Only a BritCar would require you to remove a fender to change a clutch M/C.

Thanks for the comments but I have just double checked on the Austin Healey spares website and they list separate front and rear bumpers for BN1-BN2 and BN4 - BJ8?
I take it that a Mark 1 is BN1 - BN2?

I know of a nice set of Mark 1 bumpers for sale but dont want to buy them if they wont fit.

Hey Jeepster,
BN1's and BN2's are not referred to as Mark 1's. Mark 1's are all six cylinder cars so will work on your BJ8.
Regards,
Mike

Or just leave them off

Right, now it makes sense. thanks for the info but I think that last pic has made me change my mind. It looks stunning. What have you done to the rear? Just overiders? or nothing at all?

If you're thinking of leaving the front bumper, you could use Sprite overriders in the rear like the rally cars:

I am not concerned about having the car look factory correct. In the back, I left the over riders off the bumper. I felt it look cleaner that way.

Well it may look cleaner but you do not have much protection back there now,so why remove what little protection you have??

Additionally it looks like your bumper has been improperly shaped while it was being plated correctly arched the Healey bumper is quite attractive IMOP--Keoke

I built the car to my liking. I can't see the overriders providing much of any substantial incremental protection and I'm willing to take that chance.

I think the overriders inflict more damage that what they try to protect you from. It definitely looks nicer without them. Next time you see an MGB with overriders, check for marks in the grill and rear body panels.

Another option is nerf bars. I haven't gotten around to making a set for the front yet.

As mentioned the bumpers are the same except the early 100's. Don't forget to mount the bumpers with the small circular indentation on the bottom!

Healey Z, thanks for the extra pictures.

I think you have it about right and I am very tempted to follow your lead. No bumper at the front and rear bumper without overriders.

I would have removed my front bumper by now just to see what it looked like but I have a small amount of damage to the bottom of the front shroud where it must have run over something in the past and the bumper hides most of it from view.
