Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear set..

I need a picture of your drive gear and how it aligns with the pedestal above it. I know the offset goes towards the engine but the slot that engages the dizzy drive dog is bisecting the angle between the pedestal lower bolt holes (mounting holes) and the upper set that can attach to the dizzy clamp. Can't seem to align it with the top holes as the manual shows.....

Bill,

Sorry, i was in the garage screwing up something.

Do these help?

EDIT: The only shot that I have of the pedestal installed.

Second EDIT:

I found this one of the bottom view deep down inside.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

OK, this one is better, but that's all that I have.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

Bill,

Please don't forget to shim it properly.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

Hey, your's is like mine! The slots are half-way between the 2 sets of bolt holes. The manual shows them to line up with the upper holes. And the problem for me is my dizzy seems off, ie, the rotor doesn't line up with the number one firing point (off a little bit, actually). I had it marked on my dizzy. Maybe if I turn the crank to 8*BFTDC, where I run it, it might line up. I'm tired.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

Actually, I would have to line it up AFTDC for it line up. Now I am confusing myself. Wonder if the drive gear can be jumped one tooth. The cam is set at TDC.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

I believe that mine was set with #1 piston @ TDC.

My tach cable alignment is right on the money as the book says it should be.

TR6Bill....
Just been fooling about with that after installation of my new cam.
Yes, the drive gear can be engaged on any tooth to the cam drive gear as long as you pre-align the oil pump drive tang to where the gear slot will be after it makes it's helical turn during engagement (can't beleive I wrote that it's so complicated)
Make sure you're engaged on that oil pump tang or you won't be able to properly seat the pedestal.
You have two ways of adjusting the dizzy so that you can line up the #1 plug and get the points opening at/near #1 TDC (on compression). 1) loosen the distributor girth clamp for gross adjustment and 2) adjust on the dizzy to pedestal clamp bolt which provides fine adjustment on a small slot.
If you have it all correct it should run with the retard vacuum line on the dizzy at roughly 3 to 4 o'clock as you view it over the drivers side fender (on a LHD model) if it's a way out either way then the drive dog is not orientated properly (which you may be able to live with; I think Tinster's is like that)
If you do decide to pull the drive dog out and realign it use a magnet to suck it out of the well and use your good male dominated spatial imagery (and a lot of cussing) to figure where that oil pump drive tang needs to be to get it back in and meshed correctly!
Hope this helps.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

That about sums it up Graham.

Bill, ya got that thing running yet?

Paul, my get up and go got up and went. Soon, I hope.

Re: Brosky, ya got a picture of dizzy drive gear s

I understand exactly how you feel. Been there and done that.

When it's the right time, it will run again.
