Anybody have a diagram of how they would lighten their flywheel? I have a machinist, but he wants some hints.

Thanks Doug, I had looked at that site before. It shows some of the area to trim. I am not sure how they carved out around the mounting holes. I assume with a milling machine.

Hi Jerry -

Here's a few photos of the lightened stock flywheel I used on my vintager racer for years. You could use this same design for the street, just leaving a little more material on if you didn't want it as light. I think 25 lbs would be a good streetable weight.

Good pictures Doug. I also was sent a very old healey magazine which gave how much metal to cut off, ie. 1/8 at the outside corner, 1/4 on the back side curve. I will see if I can post these and we will have it all in the same place.

Oooo not to sure about that Dougie, I took mine to Bill Rawles and he whipped about 6Lbs out of it. It ticks over well and is quite responsive.

Read the text first then the picture and this will make sense. Helps a lot with Dougs pictures. Thanks Doug.

You're right Bob, I miss-spoke. The wine must have been talking, I meant to say 20lbs. would be a good street weight.

Or you can go with the "Full Monty" at 10lbs which I use on my racing big Healey.

Hey Dougie, How much HP do you get out of your racer engines?

Hi Jerry -

I get a lttle north of 250hp with most of my race motors at the wheels. This lastest build is a few levels beyond that....

That's pretty amazing. About what I'm getting at the wheels with my V8. Using Sunbeam Tiger cast iron manifolds from a 260 cubic inch motor really chokes the hp, but they do fit without really cutting up the car. Just what do you have to do to the Healey motor to pull that kind of hp?

I have my friend's Huffaker Healey at my house during the fire season. The owners live in the boondocks and were worried as it is not street legal. When he raced it, the dyno on the engine was only 195 hp. I only drove it around my yard, but I could feel the power available!

I've ridden in it, and it's definitely not docile.

Hi Jerry -

Does Phil still own the car? I corresponded with him a few times when he was thinking of selling it.

Yes, Phil needs to sell it. He decided he is too old to race anymore and it needs to be driven. He has a 100 4 Healey and a Morris Minor so he still has lots of toys to drive. We are trying to decide where to post it for sale.

Really impressive Dougie!!!... full build specs??... or is that secret?

Steve
