Any tricks to replacing fuel pump points?

My fuel issues seem to be the points. The failure of the pump became rediculous this weekend, so I dropped the tank and found it was clean. I pulled the pump this evening and the points are burned and pitted. I have a set on order.

So, when I get the new ones and install them, are there any hints or gotchas that I should be aware of?

My STRONG suggestion would be to do more than add a diode or a capicator to reduce the point burn, but to completely transistorize your fuel pump and totally eliminate the point burn.

I did mine over 10 years ago for less than $2 and it is still going, untouched.

Complete instructions, with pictures, are available at www.ntahc.org. Click on "Technical Tips" and scroll down to Tip # 21.

OR go straight to it HERE = https://www.ntahc.org/techtips/TXFuelPump/TXFuelPump.htm

You can also download the instructions in MS Word form to keep.

You can also send it to Dave Dubois and he will return it to you converted to fully contactless, and looking like a new pump. Though it'll cost you more than $2...
