Any Affordable Places to Stay In /Around Newport,Rhode Island?

Wife checked,& they all seem to be around $200 a night.
IT'S NEWPORT, PAY THE 2 BILLS AND COUNT YOURSELF LUCKY.
The only time I went to Newport was during the Cup Races.
I sailed into the harbor, tied up at an empty dock and spent the night.
No one had any problem with it.

Guess we won't fit in then. We'll be driving up there.
We were going to fly,but the cheapest way to do that
was to drive to Washington,DC,pay for parking,& get a
rental car, which would cost about $1000+.
Wife noticed that it's only a 9-1/2 hour trip,so it
would take about time to get there, after getting a shuttle
from parking,& then all the the time getting through the
airport,security,etc.

We spent a week in Newport in June - absolutely loved it! Warwick is close and, food and drink get more reasonable the further you get away, but, yes, pay the $200

Take it from a native Rhode Islander check out the Seekonk Massachusetts, East Providence Rhode Island area. It’s closer to Newport than Warwick and there are some decent prices. Before you book check with me, I can probably help you decide. Also while you’re here check out Bristol RI. It’s a mini Newport.

I always stay with my parents when I'm back in RI, but that has its own cost. o_O

Newport's a fun tourist town. Nice car museum now (need to get there) and the mansions and ocean walk are a good time. My mom and grandmother were both born and raised in there. To be honest, $200/night is not bad for Newport. Also keep in mind that RI is a tiny place, so you're never really all that far from anything else.

Drew,
I heard from someone from RI that they don't have pictures
on their drivers licenses,as everyone knows everyone in the state.

Thanks for the suggestions. We found a place in Swansea. We
won't have much time for sightseeing,as this trip is to visit with our
oldest Son,who's a LT Commander in the Navy,& will be on a 1-1/2 -
year deployment shortly.

Doug - if you have any free time, you might enjoy the Newport Car Museum (Portsmouth RI), the Audrain Automobile Collection, or the Coggeshall Farm Museum (Bristol). All within an hour of Swansea.

admission: $20/adult. Open daily.

admission: $18/adult. Open daily.

admission: $10/adult. Saturday and Sunday; free on Fridays.

PS - While in RI, enjoy a coffee milk or a Dell's Lemonade, and maybe some calamari, some chowder, clamcakes, zeppole, or johnnycakes.
