TR2/3/3A Another/maybe the same fuel delivery problem

Took the car out today for the first good run. Went to get fuel and on the way back started missing and then stopped. After being recovered with a wrecker was able to determine no fuel was being pumped by the fuel pump. The hand pump operated fine but the pump would not deliver fuel by the engine. The pump is new having just purchased it on April 6th. Naturally, the tank was full so had to drain it. And after removing the pump noticed the operating lever was all the way to one side. See picture. Is it possible the lever went so far to the side it came off the lobe? Or is it more likely one of the valves fell out? Sorry for the poor quality of the picture of the lobe. That's as far away as I could get with the camera. Should the operating lever fit between the shoulders of the lobe? Thanks for the help.

OPPS! Forgot to include the pictures. Here they are. DSCN1511.jpgDSCN1510.jpg

Something wrong there. Did the pivot pin for the lever arm fall out?? There was a batch of pumps awhile back that didn't have the pins secured properly and would allow them to walk out of the housing.

The pivot pin is still in place. As you can see, the lever arm shifted sideways enough to come off the cam lobe. I can push the lever arm back to the center but no further. In other words looking at it head on the lever arm can be pushed against the right side but cannot be pushed against the left side. Comes off the lobe and stops pumping.

There should be no significant side to side movement possible. I only use old original AC pumps as they can be rebuilt indefinitely and are not prone to some of the failure modes of the reproduction parts, including the pin coming out and now the lever slipping away.

...Naturally, the tank was full so had to drain it. And after removing the pump...

I see no reason to drain the tank - I just clamp the rubber line that connects the hard line to the pump inlet line. Alternately, one can clamp the rubber line that come from the tank.

I use a fuel shutoff valve for a motorcycle on the 5/16" fuel line just before the hard line going into the fuel pump. So small hardly noticeable.
