Aluminium oil pan

Hi there,

I've installed an aluminium oil pan on my 100/6 Longbridge model and have always filled up the oil to the marks on the dipstick.

Last night, I decided to put the exact amount of oil into the engine (12,75 pints or 7,25 litres)and found that the level is now about an 1/8 inch below the minimum mark. I rechecked it after the oil had settled for about an hour and also decided to run the engine (perfect oil pressure after I'd also changed the oil mpressure valve)and no change.

Would this be alright to run the engine like this or should I top it up to the correct dipstick mark?

Does the aluminium oil pan have another oil capacity or do I possibly have the wrong dipstick?

regards

If that's the original dipstick to that block, I'd fill it up to the "MAX" line.

There's no threat of running it that little bit low (assuming that it is still above the "MIN" line), but under hard, or steady-state cornering, the lower level (even given the same capacity of oil) might be of concern.

That's a little disconcerting though, that the aluminum pan might be even lower than the stock steel one; be mindful of the things you drive over, as the allloy sump won't dent like the original one...

The original oil pans on both my cars were so dented and one had a crack, so I switched both to aluminum. Less leaks, no dents yet.

just a notion,
Why can't the pan be shortened so that its floor hides above the chassis rails?
It could be, so long as the oil pump's pickup tube (in strainer) still rests on the bottom.

Ideally, you'd extend the sump further forward, like the Sebring cars.

Does anybody know what the correct length of the original dipstick for the 100/6 4 port engine is?
