TR2/3/3A 59 TR3A Gearbox lever will not move.

I recently rebuilt the engine and installed it with the gearbox. Now the shifting lever will not move out of gear. I have never had the car running, but it did shift fine before installing it. Any ideas?

Will the shifter move with the engine off?

Since you have told us only the minimum about what you did, I have to make assumptions. Presumably, (1) it is locked in one gear and (2) you removed the shifter to remove the transmission and engine. If so, my first guess would be the shifter. Something got boogered (sorry about the high-level technical terminology) on reinstallation of the shifter. I have a hard time thinking of any other cause, but of course my level of imagination is only so good.

I did not remove the shifter and removed the engine and trans together. I put the trans back on the engine before reinstalling them together. It is definitely locked in gear. Thanks

Doyle , if I read your starting post correctly ,you have installed a Tr3 box that you have
not gone through. If it is a non OD box, promptly scrap it for a good Tr4/6 box.
If it is an OD, re-build it correctly and make sure the Laycock if in good shape.
It is a bad idea to install an untested tranny, leads to profanity and excessive drinking.
(and I said it with a straight face)
