I am going to replace my turn signal light with a E10 based LED so that I can see it in the daytime. My speedometer and tachometer lights all work and are bright enough. Two of the four gauges in the center panel are not lit at all. The wiring diagram shows two bulbs in the center panel. I know those gauges have translucent plastic panels on them to light some light in. Where and/or to what do those two loose bulbs attach? I can only dig one out and it is in a receiver that looks like it plugs into a gauge.
Take your time, no winter, night-time driving going on even in central AL.
Ciao!

If you can't see the turn signal light, the plastic lens is likely the problem. You may need to replace that instead of, or with, the LED bulb replacement. It should be quite bright, even with the normal bulbs. The instrument bulbs are each attached to a cheapo phenolic socket with a wire running to it. The socket then plugs into a metal socket on the back of the instrument panel. The metal socket provides the ground.

The bulbs rarely burn out, but rather the led used for the center contact wears down from vibration. Wiggling and resetting the bulb into the phenolic socket often fixes the connection.

The round holes in this panel are the light sockets. You can reach them by reaching around under the panel. When you get good at it, you can find and wiggle them easily while driving without even having to look down!?!

Great picture John! That was exactly what I needed.
